Term 3 – Week 2

Students have come back invigorated and filled with lots of energy to be active which is great. I can also see that some students have been practising the areas that we are focusing on this term, as our skills are certainly improving! This is GREAT!

F-2 – We continue to develop our catching and throwing to develop our ability to play modified games. We are focusing on the position ‘W’ of our hands, elbows on our body and hands at our chest in the ‘ready position’. We then chest pass from a feet together, to step and push. We are challenging ourselves with different sized balls and different games. We will continue this over the next few weeks, so keep practising.

3-6 – We had a quick athletics week practice, continuing from the end of term and then this week had our athletics carnival. We had a fantastic day at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve. Check out the newsletter this week for an update on the House Point standings and about the event. Students over the next week will be spoken to regarding Districts Selection.

This week we have commenced out net/wall unit which has began with watching some clips of Wimbledon and how professionals move around the court. We’ve then got out the nets and rackets and checked in on our technique and then looked at maintaining a rally and experimenting with different shots. Students are encouraged to bring in their tennis rackets over the next few weeks if they have them for use in P.E and I’m also happy to have the nets out at recess and lunch times. Many students are a member of local clubs: Elsternwick, South Hawthorn to name a few, so if your child is keen for some tennis then please look at the clubs around locally. Wednesday morning we also have hot shots tennis lessons running, so if you’re interested, please ask at the office. I will also hand this information to students.

Until next time, keep warm and active.
