Updates and Home Learning

It’s all a bit topsy turvy at the moment, so please keep your eyes peeled to all compass updates and event information. At this stage, the Grade 5/6 round robin District competition has been postponed (new date T.B.C) and we will not be able to schedule a final SUP session imminently at this stage (T.B.C at a later stage). The outbreak may also have an impact on the scheduling of the House cross country event next week (T.B.C).

With this in mind, just in case we are unable to come to school, I have gathered some sources for some great activities to keep fit and healthy at home. Some activities just require a dice and you’re set to go. Give them a go…..

P.E activities for home

Foundation activities

Fitness

Yoga dice

Dance work out

On the other hand, we have been really active at school:

  1. We celebrated ride2school day with 97% of the school students travelling ‘actively’. We saw some great dressed up bikes which received raffle tickets for the potential winning of a prize. Prizes were drawn at assembly and the overall two winning bikes was announced. We also had a day visit from the YMCA who ran skateboarding clinics for the Grade 3/4’s and open for Grades 1/2 and Grades 5/6 at lunchtime. We look forward to perhaps some lunchtime skateboarding future sessions. The event was well put together by a group of House Captains. Very well organised by them and well done for those who got involved!

2. St Kilda footballers visited us at recess for a kick and the Grade 3/4’s for a Q & A session. Plenty of students were active kicking the ball up on the oval with our new AFL goals.

3. Grade 5’s are now certified sailors who hold a ‘tackers’ certificate. This allows them to head down to a Yacht club and go out on a tackers boat with friends and family. Super fun and a great way to develop confidence around the water.

4. Foundation students are developing their overarm throwing ability. Be sure to ask them how you can throw far with an overarm throw. I will also be communicating soon with the Foundation student families regarding a new FMS app that I am using called “skillhouettes’ which assess students and sends this information directly to you with some videos and new step/practice ideas. Stay tuned through compass regarding the set up of this app.

5. Grade 1/2’s are developing their catching on the move with some small sided games and also enjoying their experience of a weekly yoga session delivered by Yoganaughts.

6. Grade 3/4’s are in the thick of their SEPEP ultimate frisbee tournament and the ladder is updated weekly. Come on by and check out the SEPEP display outside the Grade 3/4 classrooms to learn the rules, see the teams and see the ladder. Watch out on seesaw for the media managers post regarding the games.

In the last few weeks of term, we wrap up invasion games by the Grades 3-6, throwing from F-2 and finish with House cross country. Stay tuned for updates regarding the event.
