Term 4 – Week 2

Welcome back all! I hope you all had a great holiday break and are equally excited for what’s in store this term.

Foundation – Continue to build and complete their set of fundamental movement skills as we learn the concept of two handed striking and bouncing. We have already commenced the skill of two handed striking, experimenting with pool noodles and cricket bats.

Grades 1/2 – Move onto the forehand strike through tennis. As we discuss all sports that involve the forehand strike, tennis is one of the popular choices with the Australian Open not long away. We have begun with grip familiarisation and the technique of the volley and the concept of a rally.

Grades 3-6 – Having now completed net/wall games we move onto target games. We are thinking a little more outside of the square, though still including the familiar target games (bocce, bowling etc) with creating our own mini golf obstacle courses, spaceball, dodgeball and inventing their own games. We are understanding that some game categories do have ‘target’ elements, but of course can still predominately be another classification e.g. cricket is a striking and fielding game, but does have target elements (hitting into space, bowling etc).

Along with the P.E curriculum, we have Yoga clinics for grades 5/6, Saint Kilda AFLW visit, House swimming carnival, 3/4 swim programme, 5/6 Inter-school sport, 5/6 lifesaving and I’m sure there’s even more to be added. It’s a busy term, but we’ve made some great additions this year and look forward to planning an even better 2020.

Please do encourage students to share their learning and practises at home. I always encourage and suggest ideas for practise at home.

Have a great active weekend,

Jo
